 News

Hi, welcome to my new website ! I am really pleased how it looks but I will be improving it in the future as I get into the swing of the new format, but so far so good. Whilst sorting out old images I found some really old exhibition publicity photos that I thought I would show you, they are from my first Solo exhibition at the Origin gallery, Dublin back in 2006. Also I was delighted that this years (2022) Lady captain of the Dundrum Hotel golf club chose one of my paintings as her Captain's prize.

September 17th 2023, the weather has been so variable this year but when it has been fine I have been out doing some en plein air work as well as working in my studio. I was really pleased with my home made pochade box which has worked out really well and saved me a fortune! Most of my detailed oil painting work is completed in the studio over weeks or even months yet it does me good to loosen up my brushwork by painting outdoors and it is so different from the controlled environment of my studio, inquisitive cows, sudden wind or rain and bits falling in the wet paint are all part of the joys of painting outside!

Above images-Out in the Glen of Aherlow and then my latest painting in progress on my easel in my studio, nearly finished!

July 2024- My most recent painting today is an oil painting of a Peregrine falcon on the Kerry coast, entitled 'The wild Atlantic way'. Peregrines are one of my favourite birds of prey to paint, it seems to me that their plumage is coloured the same as the sea and sky. I love the proud slightly haughty expression it had as it looked back at me and they have every right to be proud as they truly are masters of flight. Somehow they seem to personify the spirit of the wild. This detailed painting was finished in my studio over several weeks to really capture the beauty of the coastal landscape and the Peregrine, this high level of detail is an important part of achieving authenticity in my work yet just as important is not to let that make the work too stiff so that I can create the sense of a real living, breathing wild creature that the viewer can connect with.
